What is an IP address?
An IP address is the number your internet provider gives your connection. Every website you open sees it, and from it they can look up your provider and roughly where you are, usually your city.
Can I hide my IP address?
Yes. With a VPN, websites see the address of the VPN server instead of yours. Turn your VPN on and reload this page: if the IP and the city above change, it works. More ways to hide your IP.
Why does it show the wrong city?
Location comes from databases that map blocks of addresses to places. They are often a city or two off, and mobile networks are often placed in another region altogether. Why this happens.
Can someone find my home from my IP address?
Not from the address alone. It points to your provider and an area, not a street. Your provider knows which customer had the address, and gives that out only to the police with a court order.
